UPSC Engineering Services 2027: 480 vacancies, applications close 6 October
UPSC has notified the Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination 2027 for 480 posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and E&T engineering. Apply by 6 October 2026, 6 pm; prelims on 31 January 2027.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 on 16 September 2026. The exam recruits engineers to Group A and Group B posts in central government departments such as the Railways, Central Water Engineering and Defence services.

Eligibility basics
- Education: A degree in engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification as specified in the notification.
- Age: 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027. Upper age relaxation applies for OBC (up to 33), SC/ST (up to 35) and other categories as per rules.
Fee
The fee is Rs 200. Women, SC, ST and PwBD candidates do not pay any fee.
Selection process
ESE has three stages: a preliminary exam (objective), a main exam (conventional, discipline-specific) and a personality test.
