How the rings are being distributed
To clear the backlog of babies born since 22 June, the state has set up about 107 distribution hubs, handling around 100 babies a day each. Going forward, rings will be given at the time of discharge from hospital. Distribution has been kept on hold in Maduranthakam and Dharapuram because of by-elections there.
Why the government says it matters
The state says the scheme is meant to honour motherhood, promote women's health and encourage more families to choose institutional deliveries in public hospitals.
What parents should do
Parents of eligible babies should check that the birth is registered under PICME and keep the mother's Aadhaar (e-KYC verified) and residence proof ready, then contact the hospital or nearest distribution hub for the date.
