Carmakers reported their September 2026 sales on 1 October. Overall passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers stayed broadly flat at about 4 lakh units, with most leading brands seeing a dip from August even as several grew year-on-year.

India's largest carmaker sold 2,36,013 units in total, including exports, up 24.4% from a year earlier.

Tata Motors commercial vehicles
Tata Motors' commercial vehicle sales rose 42.4% to 51,062 units. Domestic CV sales grew 31.2% to 43,487 units, and international business nearly tripled to 7,575 units.

Four of the top five carmakers recorded lower volumes than in August. Kia was the standout, helped by new CNG options and the launch of the Sorento. Tata held on to second place, just 227 units ahead of Mahindra.

These are dispatches from factories to dealers, not sales to customers. Retail registration data from FADA for September, which will cover the Navratri period, will give a clearer picture of festive demand.
